oooooh canada we stand on guard for thee!

I always forget how much I love the Winter Olympics until they start. I've become obsessed. I will watch any sport they decide to show. My favorite (of course) is the hockey, but speed skating, snowboarding, skiing of all types, and even figure skating and curling have all made it onto my watch list.

And because I am a girl with a serious weakness for athletes, I have also found some new Olympic loves.

1) Alexandre Bilodeau, the first Canadian to win a medal this year:

Yes, I think the French Canadian accent is cute. Don't judge.

2) JR Celski, the adorable pint-sized speed skater who nearly sliced his leg off with his own skate last September:

3) Zach Parise, NJ Devils (boo) player unfortunately, but a bit of a hottie:

Also the hero of today's quarterfinal game against Switzerland. I couldn't watch because I was in class taking a test, but he scored both goals.

4) Aksel Svindal, 6'5" Norwegian alpine skier:

5) Evan Lysacek, although this is mainly for Vanilla Bear's sake because he looks a bit like Gonzalo Higuain:

And this last one isn't an Olympian, but I stumbled across him when I was googling goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Ladies, I present to you Swedish model Alex Lundqvist:

I have a feeling Stephanie and Callie might agree with me on this one.

apparently i like funny guys

I think I'm developing a thing for Joel McHale.

Of course I've always found him hilarious on The Soup, but I don't see it that often because I don't watch reality tv so I don't know what he's talking about half the time. Plus it's on past my bedtime.

But I finally started watching Community-which I had no idea he was in until tonight-and I've realized I'm a little bit in love. Something about the sarcasm mixed with the intelligence mixed with the arrogance is appealing to me. And don't ask me why I think arrogance is an attractive trait because I don't really know. Humility just kind of annoys me sometimes.

Plus, who knew he was so tall? You only see him from the torso up in The Soup so I always thought he was short, but he and Chevy Chase look like they're the same height! I'd be willing to overlook the light hair for that.

Am I crazy for thinking it or am I crazy for just now noticing?

this is a rage post.

I've been ranting about this to various people since I found out about it yesterday, so I figured I'd post a general rant on here for everyone to read. This place is seriously turning into a "Sarah bitches about football" page. I know you love it...

So Tottenham Hotspur. I hate them. This is no surprise, as I am an Arsenal fan, but lately I've been hating them for a very different reason. 'ARRY KEEPS SIGNING PLAYERS I LIKE!

In the same way that Arsenal are the France of the Premier League and Liverpool are (or used to be) the Spain, Spurs are becoming the Croatia of English football.

I am not okay with this.

Luka Modric went, and I was sad because he's awesome. Then Vedran Corluka went, and it wasn't super surprising because he follows Luka everywhere, but it was very sad because he's hot and I don't like lusting over the opposition.

Nice manbag, Charlie.

Now it turns out they signed Niko Kranjcar and I just don't know how to deal. I love Niko. Niko is hot like Charlie, but his personality is a little more complex. He's a smart cookie and seems like a genuinely sweet guy. I know Arsenal don't need a player in his position, so I guess I can't really complain, but from a selfish standpoint I'd rather see him on a sinking Pompey ship than with the North London Scum. (Sorry Ven!)

Jay kay. Real hottie picture here.
I hate that I like so many of their players now, because logically that should mean I should hate them less, but it just makes me more annoyed at them because it's Tottenham. I'm so confused! Vanilla Bear says I should dispense with the hatred a little and learn to accept, but I'm pretty sure I can't do that.

So...other opinions?

more summer soccer adventures

My computer is broken again, so I've been a bit m.i.a. lately. I want to post these though because I'm still all giddy over the game. And I don't even like Real Madrid that much!

(For Vanilla Bear)

So the game was awesome, even though it was a shut out. Poor DCU. Seeing Iker and Raul in person was so so good though!

so you may have noticed...

...that my blog has been a bit inactive lately. So I'm putting up a temporary

sign on my proverbial blog lawn.

Fear not, I will be back soon. Until then, enjoy some pretty pictures of José Nicholas Théodore.

for gina

My friend Gina had a bit of a bad day yesterday. So I made something to cheer her up. And photobucket sucks, they blocked it for copyright infringement. Lame. Youtube to the rescue!

(Yes, I realize the music and the pictures don't really fit together, style-wise. Just go with it.)

I hope you feel better soon!

Also, the Hottie World Cup quarterfinals are under way. Don't forget to go vote for your favorites!

quick notes

Lots of things have happened over the past few days that I haven't had the time or energy to blog about, so I'm just going to do a quick rundown and stick them all in one post.

1) Arsenal beat Roma 1-0 earlier this evening on a Van Persie penalty. Again, Bendtner was kind of shite. Eboue got a standing ovation when he was subbed off, which is good I guess (that the fans aren't booing him anymore at least), but he's still pretty crap too. Positives about the game? Um, we won.

2) This article says Fàbregas is scheduled to come back for the Man City game in April. My Citeh-loving buddy better come through with those tickets. I don't even care if I have to sit in the away section.

3) My sister got engaged. I haven't actually been able to speak to her about it yet (she told me on Facebook while I was in Brighton, haha) because she's always out when I call. So I don't know all the details yet, but it's pretty exciting! For those who don't know, the sis is 22 and is due to graduate this spring; her fiance is 24 next month, graduated a year ago, and works for a bank in Pittsburgh.

4) I have three essays due soon. One every week until the end of term, specifically. I should probably start writing those.

5) I'm starting to think about where to go in April, when I have a month off of school. If any of you have input, feel free to leave it in the comments!

6) Don't forget to vote in the Hottie World Cup! Specifically, don't forget to vote for the USA in the Hottie World Cup! We're beating the Italy B team, but not by much.

You should also vote for the Dutch, because they're behind. Ditto Croatia. They also have awesome promo videos:

First round voting ends at 12:01 am GMT on Thursday. And thanks to Kickette, Unprofessional Foul, The Offside, and everyone else who has helped to spread the word!

this is serious.

Teams posted 20th Feb, and voting begins on the 23rd. You know you want to join in.

we all have our fangirl moments, right?

So I've written on the legit reasons I became a footie fan. Now I'm hopping to the shallower side of the pond: the eye candy. Because really, who doesn't love looking at hot guys? Settle down and grab some popcorn, 'cause this is probably going to be a long post.

First up, the Spaniards. No surprises here, they are beautiful boys who play beautiful football.

1) Cesc Fàbregas, the love of my life. He's a bit of a dork, but then again so am I. And he sure threads a mean pass. So amazing, he deserves two pictures.
2) Iker Casillas, a.k.a. God. I am a devoted member of the Church of San Iker.
3) Raul Gonzalez, the other Spanish God of football. Also sometimes known as The Original Hottie.
4) Fernando Torres, the waxing, bleaching, swearing-in-English, goal-scoring genius himself.
5) Xabi Alonso. I'm still lamenting the fact that we couldn't sign him. He is exactly the kind of player Arsenal need at the moment. Plus he'd look pretty in a Gunners kit--we already know red suits him! (Don't worry Liverpool fans, I'm just kidding!

...kind of.)
6) Vicente Rodriguez. Best legs in the biz. Also makes getting punched in the face look damn fine. (Of course, next to him is David Villa--that's Dahveed Veeyah--of Euro 2008 high scoring fame.)And now on to the non-Spaniards.

7) Robin van Persie. I mean, who doesn't love a guy who gets so into table tennis? If nothing else, he'd probably be a great beer pong partner.

8) Roque Santa Cruz. Coolest footballer's name ever. Well, second coolest; I still love saying Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite. But Roque is prettier than Kaka. See?
9) Vedran Corluka. Congratulations Charlie, you are the first Tottenham player I have ever admitted to being attracted to. Quite an achievement. (In my defense, I found him attractive before he sold his soul to the devils.) I can't help it though, he is very much my type: tall, dark hair, amazing green eyes, tall, lean, foreign, did I mention tall? It could never work out between us, me hating his club and all, but that might not stop me stalking him in London...
10) Niko Kranjcar, the other tall beautiful Croatian boy. Sadly, this one's married and doesn't live in London. Although he might soon! Okay, so it's a completely unfounded not-even-rumor-yet, more of a "we should sign him" than a "we are going to sign him", but still. It would be fab. And we both drink lots of milk and pull our long sleeves down over our fingers: totally MFEO.

Okay, now that I've revealed myself to be a total fawning fangirl and destroyed any sort of credibility about the game that I may have previously had, I'm going to go now. Peace out.
