Evan and Melissa needed to go, and they're both still here. It's all Tyce's fault for doing that stupid cancer dance. No one wanted to vote Melissa and Ade off after that, and while I didn't want Ade voted off, I did really want Melissa to go. I love ballerinas normally, but she's too one-dimensional and also kind of annoying. I used to love Evan, but he's long overstayed his welcome. Kupono was better than him, and Jason was better than all of the boys. My mom and I have decided that maybe we should actually start voting in these stupid things if we really care that much.

But seriously, what the fuck America? How can you not like a guy that looks like a cross between Eduardo da Silva, Goomba (haha thanks Ali), and a puppy dog? I am most seriously displeased.

I have no excuse for the lack of posts. I suck. I swear I'll try to be back and blogging normally soon, but for now I just had to post this. I can't get over this dance. Best thing ever. It seriously gave me chills.

Movies I need to buy:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I'm not really a fan of westerns, because most of the ones I've seen have bored me. (I've been told many times that I need to watch The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and I'm sure I will one of these days, but I'm not really in a hurry to.) But this movie is fantastic. It's sad at times, hilarious at others, and has some of the best one-liners in movie history. "Think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?" is a common phrase in my household. And the whole language barrier issue when they go to Bolivia is just classic comedy, because it's so easy to relate to...you know, except for the whole bank-robbing thing. Really, you can't go wrong with a Paul Newman/Robert Redford movie.

Amélie, a.k.a. Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain

I watched this again after I went to Montmartre. I'd forgotten how much I like it. It's quirky, fun, and just makes me smile.

Les Choristes

Like the French version of Dead Poets Society, with music. Jean-Baptiste Maunier's voice is absolutely stunning. I want to kidnap him and make him sing to me all day.

Singin' in the Rain

I'm not entirely sure how I don't own this movie. It's one of my favorite movies ever, and definitely my favorite musical. In an interview Debbie Reynolds said that Gene Kelly made them practice the dances until their feet bled. You know what, Debbie? It was worth it.

Notorious

My favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie. It's got love, mystery, Nazis, and Ingrid Bergman's kickass wardrobe. And the wine cellar scene is one of the most suspensful scenes in cinematic history.

The Godfather

Who doesn't love a little mob drama? Al Pacino is awesome. Although the first time I tried to watch this movie, I couldn't finish it because it was too sad when his Italian wife died. I still don't like that part. But still, it should be a part of everyone's movie collection.

There are tons of other movies that I don't own but should, but I clearly can't fit them all here. My film collection isn't very big.

nostalgia

Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.

If you are like me, you are very familiar with those three names. Or at least you were as a child. Animaniacs was serious the best cartoon ever. It was intelligent without being overbearing, sarcastic without passing over into cruelty, and it contained a fair amount of risqué humor. Looking back on it I'm actually surprised with some of the jokes they got away with. But I guess that's the very reason they got away with them; you need a certain level of maturity to get the more mature insinuations. (When you're little you just laugh at the fart jokes.)

Okay, I love Disney movies as much as the next girl, but this is just classic:

I love the West Wing. This is no secret. The show kept me sane during the Dark Ages, a.k.a. the Bush years (which I guess are technically still here, but at least there's a massive light at the end of the tunnel now). But I never thought that we'd actually be living the TV show.

I'm sure most people have heard of the similarities between Barack Obama and Matt Santos, and yes, it's not a coincidence. The character of President-elect Santos was based on Obama. What not many people know is that the Josh Lyman character was also based on a real politician, i.e. one Rahm Emanuel. Josh Lyman becomes Santos' Chief of Staff. Rahm Emanuel is now Obama's Chief of Staff.

Woah.

I'm so excited, you have no idea. Too bad they couldn't find a CJ to be press secretary instead of Robert Gibbs.

sunday night football roundup

For some reason I don't write very often about football (the soccer kind) on here, despite it being my all-time favorite sport forever and ever etc. etc. I think it's because I don't get to watch it on teevee, as the stupid effing cable company in Blacksburg decided to stop giving me the soccer channels. So now I have to make do with shitty internet feeds. I look forward to school breaks even more now just because I can actually watch footie on a real HD TV at home. My whole family thinks that I do nothing but watch soccer and hockey, because that's pretty much all I do when I'm at home. But it's just because I have so much to catch up on!

Anyhoo, so yeah I don't talk about footie much because it's pretty difficult for me to make an accurate analysis of a game from watching it on a blurry three inch screen with commentators yelling things at me in different languages. From what I could tell today, Arsenal didn't play all that fabulously: we won 2-0 but both goals came late in the second half and the first one was an OG. But a win's a win, and I consider any game where RVP isn't injured a success. He was knocked down, but was up and about a few minutes later with no apparent lasting effects.

Random Arsenal notes:
1) Dudu is supposedly only a few weeks from returning to full training. I can't wait to see our little Crozilian play again!
2) Iceman wants to come back to Arsenal to coach! Uh-mazing.
3) Arsène, can we get a new captain, s'il vous plaît?

In other news:
1) Liverpool broke Chelsea's million-years-without-a-defeat-at-Stamford-Bridge record or whatev. Good on them.
2) Tottenham got their first win today after stealing 'Arry away from Portsmouth in a midnight raid, meaning no more Spurs triangle jokes. :*( Ah well, at least they're still bottom of the league.
3) With Redknapp's disappearing act leaving Pompey managerless, Tony Adams has taken over as the head coach, at least for the time being. You go, Tony! Make us proud.
4) Speaking of Portsmouth, Niko Kranjcar seems to be fully recovered as he played for a few minutes at the end of their game. The team is officially that much prettier again. Hallelujah and amen.

i'm a heartless bitch

Have you ever had the urge to laugh uncontrollably at a very inopportune moment? This happens to me a lot. Probably far more often than it should.

Today during my Moral Philosophy class we were talking about abortion. We're devoting several class periods to it, debating both the liberal and conservative sides, and even talking a bit about stem cell research. Now on the whole, abortion isn't really a funny subject at all. The problem is that I started watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia yesterday, and the second episode is all about abortion. During class I just kept thinking about Mac and Dennis trying to pick up girls at an abortion rally and then I'd have to seriously restrain myself from cracking up.

Mac: I hate dead baby fetuses, you know? I hate them because they’re dead, and they shouldn’t be. They should be alive, and they should be loved.

This show is serious amazing. It has now made it onto my very exclusive list of favorite TV shows. It's extremely politically incorrect, so if you happen to be easily offended, it's probably not right for you. But if you happen to be a heartless bitch like me, go watch. No joke, it will make your day.
